DESCRIPTION

Eating disorders are complex, psychiatric disorders. This program is designed to present clinicians with a basic understanding of the most common eating disorders (Treasure, et al., 2020). Understanding the behavioral and physiological features of eating disorders and risk factors will assist clinicians in knowing how and when to assess for an eating problem (Udo & Grilo, 2019). In this continuing education program, we will discuss what questions to ask in order to assess for an eating disorder as well as the therapies (Linardon, 2017) and psychotropic medications (Davis & Attia, 2019) currently recommended for the most common diagnoses.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Based on the content of this workshop, you will be able to:

·Identify the key diagnostic features of the most common eating disorders

·Describe typical behavioral and physiological features of common eating disorders and risk factors for developing an eating disorder

·Assess for an eating problem

·List basic principles of recommended psychological treatments and available psychopharmacological options for each diagnosis

AUDIENCE

This program is appropriate for mental health practitioners who would like to better understand how to assess for an eating disorder. This course is designed to be an introduction to eating disorders and would not be appropriate for clinicians with extensive experience in eating disorders.
