Practicing Ethically in a Brave New World: Telehealth, At-Home, and Jurisdiction Considerations

Presented by Sean Knuth, Ph.D.

3 CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS

BASE is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. BASE maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

DESCRIPTION

When COVID-19-related restrictions were implemented in the US in early 2020, many practitioners were forced to learn how they might be able to continue to provide mental health services in a reliable manner (Connolly et al, 2020). Although the practice of telehealth has existed for decades, many providers did not consider it a meaningful substitute for in-person practice. However, the field has demonstrated telehealth can be an effective way to deliver mental health services to clients who would otherwise not be able to receive continuity of care (Lopez et al, 2019), even in the most exacting of circumstances (Brown, Walker, & Godden, 2021). As pandemic-related restrictions end, clinicians may consider keeping telehealth services in their repertoire. The purpose of this presentation is to provide clinicians with information on how to ensure proper credentialing for telehealth practice, on how to set up for telehealth in a manner that facilitates interacting with clients, and possible concerns associated with employing telehealth and how to accommodate for them.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Based on the content of this workshop, you will be able to:

·Describe how to ensure proper credentialing for telehealth practice

·Explain how to set up for telehealth in a manner that facilitates interacting with clients

·Articulate possible concerns with employing telehealth and how to accommodate for them
