DESCRIPTION
This presentation is designed to provide practitioners with a comprehensive understanding of attachment theory as it relates to the therapeutic needs of LGBTQ+ adolescents. The course will explore LGBTQ+ terminology, attachment principles (Mikulincer & Shaver, 2003), and the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ youth (Kozlowska et al., 2021; Levy et al, 2016). Participants will learn to conceptualize adolescent LGBTQ+ struggles through an attachment framework (De Meulenaere et al., 2021), focusing on consistency, accessibility, and responsiveness (Gallagher et al., 2016, Wright et al., 2017). The aim is to equip practitioners with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide effective and affirming care for LGBTQ+ adolescents and their families.
